60163 is the first new mainline steam locomotive built in the UK since 1960.

The project to build a Peppercorn Class A1 locomotive from scratch started in Darlington in 1990 and it first moved under its' own power in August 2008

It is a credit to the A1 Steam Locomotive trust

Whilst built to the original Peppercorn design it incorporates all modern safety and certification features.

After completion of running in trials at the Great Central Railway it will be able to run on the UK mainline as well as Heritage railways
