During 1983 Eastleigh Works converted nine former BR designed 2Hap driving motor coaches into Class 489 Guards Luggage Vans (GLV) to provide one end driving for the Gatwick Express trains. 9106 has been stored at the GBRf sidings in Peterborough for some time On January 31, 2007 it was removed by road to go to Barrow Hill for conversion to a de-icing unit
