Network South East (NSE) was a sector of British Rail that principally operated commuter trains in the London area and inter-urban services in the South-East of England. It was formed in 1986 when BR was sectorised. In the privatisation of British Rail on April 01, 1994 it was broken up into a number of franchises.

British Rail Class 317 EMUs were built at York in two batches from 1981-1982 and 1985-1987

317337 on a Peterborough to Kings Cross service at Sandy in 1988

British Rail Class 319 electric multiple units built at York in two batches from 1987-1988 and 1990. The 319s were introduced for new north to south cross London services from Bedford to Brighton
